How we invest.
One decision-maker, the family's own capital and a horizon measured in decades. Everything else follows from those three facts.
Own good things, for a long time.
We look for assets and businesses that will still be worth owning in twenty years, run by people we would be glad to work with for that long. We would rather pay a fair price for durable quality than a low price for a problem we hope to fix.
We think about risk the way a physician thinks about a patient: understand the whole picture first, know what can go wrong and how badly, and do not proceed until the downside is one the family can live with. Return is what is left when that work is done well.
Because the capital is ours, we never need to grow for its own sake. A year with no new investment is an acceptable year if nothing met the bar.
One table, one answer.
Investment decisions are made by the principal, Dr. Irfan Siddiqui. There is no investment committee to schedule and no outside limited partners to consult. Sponsors deal with the person who decides.
That means we can say yes quickly when an opportunity is clear, and we say no just as quickly when it is not, so no one spends months waiting on us. When we need more information we ask for it directly and tell you why.
Family capital
1976 Capital invests only the Siddiqui family's own money. It does not raise funds, take outside investors or manage money for anyone else. The family's capital is at risk alongside yours.
A long horizon
Without a fund life, we are not forced to sell into a weak market or to refinance on someone else's schedule. We can hold through cycles, reinvest when it makes sense and plan around the next generation, not the next fundraise.
What we look for in a sponsor or operator.
Experience in the asset class
A record of doing this kind of deal before, through more than one market, and candour about what went wrong as well as what went right.
Meaningful co-investment
Your own capital in the deal, on terms that make our interests the same as yours.
A clear plan
A business plan we can follow, conservative assumptions and an honest account of the downside case.
Plain dealing
Straight answers, timely reporting and no surprises. Bad news early is always better than bad news late.
How we participate.
Co-investment
Capital alongside a sponsor in a specific asset or company, typically as a limited partner or member with clear governance rights.
Joint venture
A partnership with an operator on a property or platform, with roles, decisions and economics agreed up front.
GP / promote positions
Participation in the general partner or promote of a sponsor's deal, where we can add capital and stability at the sponsor level.
Operating businesses
Direct ownership of companies where we understand the business and can contribute more than capital, often with management staying on.
The work starts at closing.
We expect regular, accurate reporting: financials, a short account of what is going to plan and what is not, and early notice of anything that matters. We read what we are sent and respond.
We do not try to run our partners' businesses. We stay available, ask good questions and help where we can, whether with a second view, a relationship or patience when a plan needs more time.
Alignment does not end with the documents. We look for partners who want the same outcome we do, over the same horizon.
